I love the way your mind works, I've never seen it before

One of those interesting 'phone calls. It will surprise you not one whit that it came from the Reference Library.

"Hello Kevin, can you take this call?"

"Who is it and what do they want?"

"It's the bank. They want to know if they can run Windows on our computer."

"Eh?"

Bank: "Hello?"

"Hello, can I help you?"

"We've got some training disks for Windows. Can we run them on your PCs?"

"I'm sorry, you can't run your own programmes on our PCs. They've been set up so that..."

"I'm sorry, I can't hear you."

"Sorry. You can't run your own programmes on..."

"I still can't hear you."

(louder) "Can you hear me now?"

"No."

(softly) "Tell you what, I'll ring you back."

It's difficult to know who's worse, the reference librarians or the bank.

The bank is worse. Oh, the bank, the bank. I called my bank tonight and asked to know what my balance was in my chequing account. The polite young man informed me that in order to give me that information, he would need to charge me a $1.50 fee.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After I finished....shall we say, venting my spleen....the upshot of which was I hung up without knowing my balance. I'll be damned if I allow those highway robbers to pinch a dollar fifty out of my account in order to tell me what's in it, over the phone no less.

My sister used to be the installation team for a leading banking software system. She made a point of going into banks and asking for information and, upon being told "we'll have to charge you £10 for that," would ask what for and then explain: "you're not going to charge me for pressing F9, p, return return and F2 are you?"
