Now see, here comes Jumbo the elephant!

It's a funny old world.

This weekend I flew out to Fort Baxter to visit old friends. They, like me, are in the public library trade. So what do we do, in between wolfing down ginormous meals and roaming the vast hinterlands of the American dream?

We visit other people's libraries to see what ideas we can pinch. That's what library people do.

Yet another reason to thank God I never became a proctologist.

"then what reason do you have for checking out my ass?"

I visit other libraries and look at porn to see how they respond.

I always tell the ladies that I'm trying to work out whether the pertness of the cheeks is down to good tailoring or natural accomplishment. Never fails to solicit a smack in the gob.

I'm very pleased to hear that they have libraries in Fort Baxter, which I would have guessed was a when I hear the word 'culture', I reach for my Browning type of place. (Though isn't it actually a fictional location?)

The words pinch and proctologist appearing in the same post leave me with a most discomfitted feeling!

gd: I find that there's nearly always a library, even in the smallest American hamlet. They're often very well-appointed IT-wise compared to us, but their wage levels are even worse than ours.

Lavinia: 'pinch' is probably better than 'nip.'
