Close cubic packing

Another thirty-six boxes of Book Up books. The Acq. Team go into deep denial, in the desperate hope that they may get the four thousand Book Off paperbacks done and dusted by Friday afternoon.

The mood gets gloomier with the arrival of twenty boxes of Tagolog novellas.

Cow apparently is close-minded, old-fashioned, and waaaay too conservative but Cow thinks those moving to English-speaking areas should learn English instead of insisting that scare book funds be spent purchasing materials in Tagalog or other languages.

Moo!

Given the average Englishman's ability to speak the lingua franca when he's abroad, I know I don't agree.

Besides:

(1) Our book funds aren't scarce; we don't spend it all.

(2) When supporting immigrants' integrating with the local community and learning English it helps if we meet them half-way.

(3) As people get older they lose recently-acquired language skills.

(And the appaling thing is that most of the Eritreans have better English skills than the indigenous population!)
