Walking in the air

The rather a lot too many boxes, wheelie bins and assorted whatnot in the fire exit corridor have been joined by a couple of dozen chairs.

"Are they for Carbootsale?" I ask Seth.

"No," he says with gritted teeth, "they're for upstairs."

"Where in God's name are they going?" I ask.

Give Seth his due: he's never short of a good suggestion or three.

Ah, when the fire actually does break out those who are not ambulatory can be carried to the chair and thus wheeled out the exit as the fire roars behind?

Moo!

Macy: there wouldn't be enough to go round; which might inject the obligatory element of competition to the whole sorry mess

Ms Cow: we have designated it the First Aid Room

Strangely enough our agency has just popped out huge sums buying some sort of kit which allows school bus seats to be converted to stretchers to carry the wounded.

With a little ingenuity these seemingly useless chairs in the First Aid Station can also have a second life trundling patients.

Just hope there aren't a lot of stairs!
