Hettie did a sterling job of it. To the profuse thanks of T.Aldous and Julia [irony alert!]. Imagine her delight, then, to discover that it's apparently her job to nip over and straighten the books on the shelves, retrieving the ones that have been left around the reception area and putting them all in the right order.
Her ecstacy knew no bounds when she walked in and was told by the bloke who runs the coffee stall:
"Buy a cup of coffee and you get a free book, love!"

Where did the bloke who runs the coffee stall come from? Straight off the street perhaps??
I want that job of putting the books in order! Us Virgos love doing that sort of thing
Yes I quite like the idea of tidying the books - languidly.
I'd like to have seen Hettie's face.
Dear Friend: I got tired of the design, or lack of it, of my old blog. Since you’ve posted in “Savage Reflections” in the past, I wonder if I could prevail upon your good nature to check out my blog’s new face lift and post a comment. I’d love to have your opinion:
“The new design of your blog is a) good; b) acceptable; or c) a train wreck.” :-)
Thanks for your help. Yours, Berowne.
Gadjo: I hadn't thought of that: you're almost certainly right.
nursemyra: we used to have Virgos working for us. They loved the tidying-up but couldn't cope with the organisation.
Pat: we don't do languid. Desperate, stressed-out or homicidal, yes, but not languid.
Berowne: I will happily do so old chap!
ha ha so the coffee guy is giving away the books?
not much to tidy soon then?
PS pretty sure it's some immutable law of nature that the higher up you are the less actual work you have to do...that's why (here anyway) the manager swings in around noon when the clerks have been grunting work since 8 am...best to accept the librarians won't ever do much unless they are busted down to assistant status...
I think that's what caused the problems at Borders...
Ms. Cow: I'm trying to move up the food chain clandestinely. I've already started traipsing in after roll call.
Nota bene: I suspect you're right, sadly.
