Pining

The council's preferred supplier isn't prepared to sell us a Christmas tree at the moment.

"In case the price goes up because of the shortage."

Ooh, supply and demand tactics, very canny - and at Christmas, of all times of year.

This time of year you can always count on the skimmed milk of human kindness.

Kevin, speaking of trees...In the park yesterday I saw a stand of pine trees. A man that was walking by was taking photographs and we struck up a conversation. He told me that last winter, some village idiots came into the park and proceeded to cut down some pine trees for their own personal Christmas tree use. Can you believe it. It's called theft of public property and since the trees are so tall, they hacked the tree down to size, so to speak and left the parts they didn't want strewn all over the place. I've now got an axe to grind about that!

Oh yes, there's always plenty of the "what's the public's is mine and what's mine is my own" fraternity.
