Lingua Franca

Maybelle asked if we had any ideas for Mother Tongue Day.

None of the ideas we came up with would seem to be applicable in a public library.

The whole concept of Mother Tongue Day beggars belief. It is to promote multi-lingualism....

There are enough multi-lingual people in the UK - we just need more who speak English!

I've never uttered a single word of English my entire life.

They have the funniest of vowels for a start.

If I were to do an impersonation of how my mother speaks you'd have an empty library in no time.

What about giving some attention to Esperanto which was designed as a second language for us all?

Being congenitally nosy I want to know what ideas you came up with. All perfectly respectable I'm sure.

Affer: parliamo Helminthdale!

Jimmy: the Helminthdaleois have a few dipthongs unique to the locality.

Gadjo: we need the podcast!

Macy: I suspect Google got their ideas off us.

Anon: some of the locals round here don't seem to have a first language yet.

Pat: Maybelle was wearing a red outfit and matched it perfectly!
