I became insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity

Oh God. Please tell me this isn't what life is like in your fifties.

Sibyl, Bronwyn and Frog are talking in the staff room...

"Robert Plant? Isn't he married to what's her face?"

"That's right. She was on doo-dah the other night."

"That's right. Wasn't Elvis Costello on that?"

"No, that was another night."

"Oh yes. I can't remember his name..."

"Elvis?"

"No, the one who interviewed him when Elvis Presley died."

"Oh yes, that was whasisname."

"That's right, I remember it now."

Say goodnight to the folks, Gracie.

Oh dear, I'm already doing that. There's no hope for me!

Yup, I'm there already. Quite tragic really.

Re Robert Plant, I think it's rather terrific referring to icons of heavy metal in terms of to whom they're married!

Whoever Robert Plant's married to, I bet they go through lots of.. whatchamacallit... hair conditioner!

Poor Gracie she really did have the dreaded A word. As did at least one of her sisters.
It's useful to have a spouse as you can usually help each other out. And it fills the time quite nicely.

Happy Frog & You: Yup. You and Mme DeFarge.

Gadjo: I'm only surprised it wasn't his cat.

Macy: and that thingy.

Pat: sadly, this is true, I'd forgotten that (no joke intended).
Every so often a spouse will visit the rest home and stand baffled by the drivel winging round the office.

it is one of the joys to spend an evening at home with the biddies and manafing to completely avoid the use of a proper noun, or an improper noun come to that. Lots of pointing and psuedo-charades involved.

Such fun - why wait till your 50!

Yes, that is indeed what it's like.

I was taking the new Learning and Information Services Manager around on Thursday morning. We met up with team of Resources Assistant in the basement doing important and heavy work with Old Books.

"This is David, and this is Catherine, and this is..."

Silence.

I looked at my colleague I've known for twelve years or more and my mind was a complete blank. I could have told you who her ex-husband works for, but her name was completely gone.

Jo reminded me what her name was.
